Gulf of Mexico Offshore Sea Turtle-Associated Drifter Tracks from May 29, 2016 to February 10, 2018

Surface-drifting buoys were released as passive controls alongside satellite-tracked sea turtles to experimentally test and compare the movement of a passive object with location data from the turtles. These drifters remained in the upper meter of the water column (as may oceanic stage turtles) and transmitted hourly positions. Surface drifters served as controls for analyses of swimming behavior and habitat selection by turtles.
