Macrococcus lingua sp. nov., from bovine tongue.. Macrococcus lingua

Gram stained positive cocci isolated from the bovine tongue was characterised using a polyphasic approach. This strain was assigned to the genus of Macrococcus on the basis of its phenotypic, genotypic and chemotaxonomic results. The closest relative by sequencing of the 16 S rRNA gene was Macrococcus caseolyticus with 98.4% sequence identity. However, the novel strain shared only 77 % DNA sequence identity with dnaJ, 80% with sodA, 88% with rpoB and 84% with cpn60 gene sequence…. The genome sequence derived average nucleotide identity (ANI) values between the novel isolate and M. caseolyticus JCSC5402, M. caseolyticus IMD0819 and M. canis KM45013T was less than 80%, lower than the proposed species boundary ANI cut-off value (95-96%).Furthermore, the strain DPC 7161 illustrated differential phenotypic characteristics to M. caseolyticus and other known macrococcal species. The DNA G+C content of the strain DPC 7161 was 32.85 mol % .All the results showed that this strain to represent novel species for which the name Macrococcus lingua sp. nov. is proposed.
