Listeria monocytogenes are important foodborne pathogens responsible for the disease of listeriosis in humans. Strain Lm 3136 is a clinical isolate recovered from a patient during the 2005 Swiss listeriosis outbreak linked to contaminated cheese. The genome sequence of this strain will be used for comparative analysis with other sequenced Listeria monocytogenes genomes to identify genetic elements associated with virulence and stress resistance in this bacterium.
