Glitterosophy

RESEARCH BACKGROUND: Glitterosophy was a solo exhibition at Conduit Arts Gallery in Fitzroy, Melbourne. It consisted of a series of representations of Australian landscape, composed through multiple media including pen and pencil on paper, in addition to some minor collage techniques. The work was exhibited in October 2013. RESEARCH SIGNIFICANCE: The work responds to the tradition of landscape representation in Australia, challenging the populist tendency towards European perspectives, whereby the landscape is perceived as beautiful compositions or pristine wilderness. Iconic imagery is appropriated to explore a range of underlying landscape narratives, including themes of genocide, displacement and ecological xenophobia. The project draws on Greene's ongoing research practice exploring how multiple components of the urban landscape, including nature based phenomena, economic and political systems, impact the conceptualisation and design of urban wildness in public open space. RESEARCH CONTRIBUTION: The significance of this project is evidenced by its selection for presentation at Conduit Arts Gallery, a notable exhibition space that was associated with the Conduit Arts Initiative - an initiative that provided space for development and experimentation at all stages of the art making process through a competitive, expression of interest process.
