鲎（Horseshoe crab）通常会成对抵达海滩，开展其产卵仪式。单独活动的雄性个体则会聚集在筑巢的配对个体周围，争夺卵子的受精权。这类被称为卫星雄体（satellite male）的个体，往往会聚集在部分筑巢配对旁，而忽略其余配对。
