Here, we characterized thermophilic microorganisms capable of polymeric substrates degradation by applying complementary methods from experimental enrichment cultures, 16S rRNA and shotgun DNA sequencing. De novo co-assembly and binning of whole-community shotgun DNA reads from cultures revealed 3 archaeal and 17 bacterial MAGs.
