Photograph of a small herd of horses in Topanga Canyon, January 1, 1904. Nine horses are shown standing near a narrow dirt road. Most of them are dark in color, although there are two that are light. There are two foals as well. The dirt road is in the shade of tall trees at left and is marked by tire tracks. At right is an open hillside on which one of the horses is grazing. In the distance, several tree-covered ridges are visible.
