This work is an evolutionary experiment on resistance to copper (CuSO4) in Escherichia coli K-12 MG1655, and utilized both shotgun sequencing and RNAseq. The evolution of copper resistance was found to occur after 37 days of selection. Strains with the copper resistance phenotype were found to however have increased sensitivity to other antimicrobials.
