A study was performed to investigate on soil bacterial involvement in plant response to esca disease which causes economic losses in vineyards worldwide. 16S rDNA amplicon sequencing was used to investigate bacterial populations in the rhizosphere of grapevines which were selected for presence and absence of esca-foliar esca symptoms. The study involved eleven vineyards of a grape and wine producing area (Apulia region, Italy) located in the Mediterranean belt.
