The invention relates to a method for separating fibers using a container with a specified receiving volume, a vacuum pump which is connected to the container volume via a vacuum line and a valve, and a ventilation line with a specified cross-sectional opening and at least one valve. The valve can be switched from a closed state into an open state in a time domain of 19 ms to 41 ms and from the open state into the closed state in a time domain of 20 ms to 45 ms. The method at least has the steps of filling the container with a specified quantity of water and at least one fiber composite, closing the container in a gas-tight manner, mixing the water and the fiber composite using mechanical energy, in particular by stirring, generating kinetic energy in the fiber composite by lowering the container internal pressure to a value between -700 hPa to -950 hPa, and equalizing the pressure in the container interior in order to generate cavitation in the fiber composite. The pressure equalization in the container interior for generating cavitation in the fiber composite takes place within at least one time domain of 0.001 s and 1 s.
