Lemnoideae are flowering aquatic plants, belonging to Alismatales, a basal order of monocots. Genomes comparison may reveal evolutionary mechanisms for plants adaptation to the inhabit environments. Although Spirodela genome has been generated, since the bottlenecks of the current sequencing technologies, its assembly genome is highly fragmental and maybe mis-annotated. A complete and accurate genome and annotation provide fundamental platform for evolutionary investigation. Here we report the whole-genome sequencing and assembly of the aquatic plant Spirodela polyrhiza 7498 using single-molecule real-time sequencing. Relative to the previous genome, our assembly features a 32-fold increase in contig length and markedly improvements in the assembly of repeat regions.
