Cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) plays a key role in utilizing heterosis to improve agricultural productivity; however, the gene expression pattern of CMS and its molecular basis are not fully understood. In this study, the CMS lines of Tobacco Innovation 3 and its homozygous maintenance lines were used to systematically explore the gene network and regulatory mechanisms associated with tobacco CMS using a transcriptomic approach.
