Through a systematic investigation of the sedimentary organic matter characteristics of Dali Lake in northern China, we reconstructed millennial-scale environmental and climatic changes at the East Asian summer monsoon margin during the last deglaciation. Concurrent increases in total organic carbon (TOC) and total nitrogen (TN) concentrations indicate elevated terrestrial organic matter inputs and nutrient supply to the lake. The development of terrestrial vegetation and phytoplankton productivity is linked to increased regional temperature and precipitation. The C/N ratio reflects variations in the relative proportions of terrestrial and aquatic organic matter.
