Microbiome Studies in the Hutterites. Homo sapiens

In this study we wished to examine the utility of using short read, Illumina sequencing for 16S microbiome study designs. Region of 16S sequenced, length of sequencing, paired versus single end, and classification parameters were examined in order to identify an optimal study design given current sequencing capacities. Fecal samples from two healthy adults were sequenced following the suggested guidelines as a proof of principle. In addition, we also examined the gut microbiome from individuals between summer and winter, to examine the temporal stability of the microbiome within individuals over time.
