LIMEKILNS OF ASTYPALAIA

The research aims to highlight the activity of amiant production, which took significant proportions in Astypalea during the 20th century. This production did not only serve the local needs; the amiant was systematically traded on other islands and parts of mainland Greece. The issue is approached both from the point of view of the technology used and the production techniques adopted (furnace construction technology, amiant production stages), and from the point of view of the organization of work (working groups, gender, age and labor divisions, working conditions). Also, attempts are made to investigate the effects of the phenomenon (economic, social, environmental, etc.) and to connect the presence of this professional group with the history of the island.

本研究旨在凸显20世纪期间阿斯蒂帕莱阿岛（Astypalea）石棉（amiant）产业的发展态势，彼时该产业已形成可观规模。该产业的产品不仅满足了当地需求，更被系统性地销往希腊其他岛屿及希腊本土部分区域。本研究将从两大维度展开探析：其一为技术与生产工艺层面，涵盖炉窑建造技术、石棉生产流程；其二为劳动组织层面，包括作业班组设置、性别分工、年龄结构、劳动分工及作业环境与劳动条件。此外，本研究还将探究该产业现象所带来的多重影响（经济、社会、环境等层面），并厘清该从业群体与该岛历史发展之间的内在关联。
