Enterococcus faecalis cells were exposed to virulent phages, in vitro and in the mouse intestine, and isolates that survived in the presence of phage were characterized by whole genome sequencing. All phage resistant isolates had mutations that mapped to the enterococcal polysaccharide antigen (epa) locus.
