Advancing naturalistic driving study data analysis in the Australian context: Examining young novice driver behaviour at signalised intersections

This PhD program of research aimed to develop an innovative method for applying naturalistic driving study data, collected as drivers in instrumented vehicles undertake everyday trips, to inform an Australian road safety priority. Methods to analyse recorded video and to link vehicle data with government data were developed to better integrate the road environment in the exploration of factors affecting young novice driver behaviour at signalised intersections. In doing so, the thesis addressed research gaps that contribute a significant proportion of injury burden on Australian roads, and strengthened methods to inform Australian evidence-based road safety decision-making in a systems context.
