Root-associated microbiome of barley cv. 'Maythorpe' wild type and mlo mutant

We aimed to investigate whether the barley mlo mutation, which confers resistance to fungal powdery mildew disease, also induces changes in the root-associated microbiome. We grew wild-type barley and mlo knockout mutant in field-like conditions and sampled the rhizosphere at two time points. Subsequently, we performed Illumina MiSeq to determine the fungal and bacterial community composition and compare it between the two genotypes.
