Share of living under 6 in households without income from work

The headline indicator reports the number of children under the age of 18 whose parents have no income from work to total children under the age of 18, as at 31 December. As soon as a parent is ‘employed’ according to the socio-economic classification, the child is considered to be living in a household with labour income. Children of households for which it is not known whether there is an income from work (no working parent and socio-economic position of one or both parents = “other”) are not taken into account in the calculation (around 10 % of the under-18s known at the BCSS). Persons not known to the Belgian social security system (e.g.: diplomats and outgoing frontier workers) are in the category “other”.
