Replication Data and Code for: China's agricultural relocation policy abruptly shifts livestock nitrogen emissions into climate-sensitive pulses Overview This repository contains the custom Python scripts and processed lightweight summary datasets required to reproduce the statistical analyses and main figures for the manuscript: "China's agricultural relocation policy abruptly shifts livestock nitrogen emissions into climate-sensitive pulses" (currently under review at Geophysical Research Letters). Scientific Context In 2015, China initiated a massive spatial restructuring of its livestock sector, relocating intensive animal production from the water-rich south to the semi-arid northern plains. While absolute pollution fluxes declined, this study introduces a sliding-window Difference-in-Differences (DID) framework and a Hydrology-Thermal Copula phase space to reveal a severe hidden "parameter inflation." Driven by intense Soil Moisture-Temperature Coupling (STC) in drylands, desiccated soils breach the winter-accumulated "nitrogen capacitor" during compound dry-hot extremes, fundamentally nearly doubling the per-capita ecological vulnerability (+98.5%) of the new agricultural hubs. Repository Contents scripts/: Custom Python source codes used for the core analyses, including the 5-year rolling-window DID regressions, ternary variance decomposition, and the reverse-ranked Bivariate Copula phase space generation (e.g., Figures 3, 4, and S2). results_summary/: Processed lightweight CSV files containing the regional parameter shifts, Copula bin matrices, and cross-seasonal tracking data necessary for plotting. README.md: Detailed instructions for Python environment setup and step-by-step figure reproduction. Data Availability Note To ensure the repository remains lightweight and accessible, the massive raw data files are not included in this archive. The raw high-resolution (0.1° × 0.1°) livestock reactive nitrogen (Nr) emission inventory can be accessed via Chen et al. (2025). The raw hourly/daily ERA5-Land meteorological reanalysis fields (NetCDF/GRIB formats) are publicly available through the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) Climate Data Store.
