Archeological Survey of Tree Removal Zones at Wilson's Creek National Battlefield

The purpose of the archeological survey was the discovery and recording of archeological sites in four proposed areas to be affected by removal of "exotic" vegetation (i.e., osage orange and cedar trees) by heavy machinery. The survey was conducted in compliance with Federal legislation and Executive Order 11593, designed to protect and enhance archeological, historical, and architectural resources which might be adversely affected by projects supported by Federal funds or requiring
Federal permits or licenses.
The major objective of the ,survey was related to the management need to know the location and number of archeological sites to be affected by the. proposed tree removal activity. The survey was also designed to contribute to the expansion of the site inventory for the park, thereby increasing the data base pertaining to settlement patterns in the Wilson Creek Valley.

本次考古调查的目的，是对拟受重型机械移除“外来”植被（即桑橙树（osage orange）与雪松）影响的4处拟议区域内的考古遗址开展发现与记录工作。本次调查严格遵循联邦法律法规及第11593号行政命令的要求开展，该法令旨在保护与优化可能因受联邦资金支持或需获取联邦许可/执照的项目而遭受不利影响的考古、历史与建筑资源。
本次调查的核心目标，契合了管理方掌握拟议树木移除活动所影响的考古遗址的位置与数量的需求。此外，本次调查还旨在助力该公园遗址名录的扩充，进而完善威尔逊溪谷聚落形态相关的数据库。
