The procedures employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, Curation and Archive Analysis Branch, Mandatory Center of Expertise for the Curation and Management of Archaeological Collections (MCX) to rehouse the archaeological material from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, Perry Creek Dam and Reservoir are discussed below.
The first step involved in the rehousing process was to obtain copies of all cultural resource reports, artifact catalog sheets, and field notes pertaining to the collections from the MCX archivist processing the archival collection. The analytical techniques employed by the University of Nebraska to collect and process the collections were reviewed to gain familiarity with the archaeological work that had been conducted on the property. A draft of the report was located in the archival material. There was no original catalog of the artifacts.
This investigation was an archaeological testing of two prehistoric sites, 13PM61 (the Larson Site) and 13PM62 (the Lawrence Vondrak site), as well as the core sampling of a spring bog in Plymouth County, Iowa. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, was to construct a dam and reservoir on the Perry Creek and these sites needed to be tested prior to the construction. The fieldwork was carried out as a joint venture between the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and the National Park Service. Dale R. Henning, of the University of Nebraska, served as Principal Investigator during the five-week project in the summer of 1974. Further work was recommended for both sites, as well as the Perry Creek drainage basin, as a whole. The vast majority of material collected from 13PM61 and 13PM62 consisted of prehistoric materials. There were very few historic artifacts.
本次调查包含两处史前遗址的考古试掘:13PM61(拉森遗址)与13PM62(劳伦斯·冯德拉克遗址),以及对艾奥瓦州普利茅斯县一处泉沼的核心采样。
