Metataxonomic Bacterial Diversity of Cave Roots in the Yucatan Cenotes

Despite intensive research on plant microbiomes and their functions, little is known about the interactions plant roots establish with microorganisms under natural hydroponic habitats, such as those existing in the Cenotes from the Yucatan peninsula. Phylogenetic profiling of roots derived from three sympatric plant species and their surrounding freshwater revealed that the composition of the bacterial and archaeal communities was influenced by the host.
