资源简介:
This collection comprises images from Historic Building Recording at Old Steadings, Merryshield Farm, Stocksfield, Northumberland. Work was carried out by Pre-Construct Archaeology Limited in June 2024. The historic building recording of the farm building was completed in advance of conversion into a single dwelling. The available cartographic evidence suggests that the farm buildings at Merryshield Common were built in the mid 19th century, between 1842 and 1865, as a purpose-built, planned farm built from local stone rubble and adopting a courtyard plan. This included open, guttered, stockyards, open fronted cowhouses with granary, straw house, farmhands cottage and a threshing barn. The latter originally including threshing apparatus driven by an external open-sided gin gang. The building at the time of survey was redundant and parts, particularly the former cottage, had suffered collapse.
