Environmental damage costs of different residential heating technologies

Heating your home with wood is much more damaging to the environment than all other types of heating. While open fireplaces are stretching the crown, recent wood-based appliances are also much more damaging than modern gas installations. Wood as heating fuel is responsible for 60 % of all direct environmental damage costs, although only 20 % of Flemish households use wood. Heat pumps and networks have the lowest damage costs.
