The project discussed in this paper explores the combination of wave attenuation and wave overtopping equations to determine if the relationship is linear. The results and discussion section of this paper focuses on the wave attenuation aspect and the impact that gray and green infrastructure have together on reducing the energy of waves. The data from these experiments can be used to further our knowledge of how to implement mangroves on the coast to improve current protection measures. These results can be used to inform future guides and manuals of practice on how mangroves can be used in conjunction with gray infrastructure when designing sea defenses along shorelines. This project is unique in that no previous studies have attempted to find the relationship between mangroves and wave overtopping. In addition, determining the optimal combination of gray and green infrastructure has not been explored in prior research experiments. This paper can be used in the future by other researchers for comparison with their own wave attenuation and wave overtopping studies in relation to mangroves.
