Last updated December, 2025 BFFerret_ReleaseSites is an ESRI shapefile showing reintroduction release sites of Black-Footed Ferrets in Colorado since 2001. Releases on public lands are depicted by the administrative boundary of the property ferrets were released. Due to state statutory requirements and agreements made with individual landowners to protect their privacy, release sites occurring on private land have been generalized to the county in which they occurred. Ferrets will not be found within all areas of these boundaries and will only likely occur in areas with active prairie dog colonies. This dataset was compiled from coordination from CPW with USFWS, BLM and others. It is to be used as a guide on release activities only.
