Whole genome sequences of Streptomyces sp. isolated from soil samples collected around Pittsburgh PA

Soil samples were collected from three public parks in Pittsburgh, PA in early September 2020. The weather on the days the soil was collected was sunny and between 65-85F with rain occurring a week prior to collection. These soil samples were collected between 2 and 4 inches below the surface of the ground depending on how packed in the soil was. Soil specs were plated on custom media and strains were identified to be Streptomycetes based on colony morphology. Glycerol stocks were created from spores created by these microbial isolates. For whole genome sequencing, a small volume of each stock was inoculated in ISP2 liquid medium for upto seven days, after which DNA extractions were performed using the QIAGEN DNEasy Blood & Tissue gDNA extraction kit. Library preparation was performed using a modified version of the Illumina DNA Prep (M) tagmentation kit and samples were sequenced on an Illumina NextSeq 2000 sequencer.
