We propose to observe the magnetars 1E 1547.0-5408 and PSR J1622-4950\r\napproximately weekly, to track their rotation, flux density, and\r\npolarisation, as we have been doing through this project. Also, as\r\nof late 2018, XTE J1810-197 is again a radio magnetar after 10 years\r\ndormant! Its chaotic rotation is better tracked in detail elsewhere,\r\nbut weekly observations with the UWL receiver are already providing\r\nunique measurements of its radio spectrum and broad-band behaviour.\r\nOur observations provide an important window into remarkably dynamic\r\nmagnetar magnetospheres, and characterise the conditions under which\r\nradio emission takes place therein, placing constraints on the\r\nemission mechanisms, which in at least some significant respects\r\ndiffer from those of ordinary pulsars.
本研究拟对磁星(magnetar)1E 1547.0-5408与脉冲星PSR J1622-4950开展约每周一次的观测,以追踪其自转、流量密度与偏振特性,一如本项目此前已实施的观测工作。
此外,自2018年末起,沉寂十载的XTE J1810-197重新恢复为射电磁星!尽管其混沌自转的详细追踪需依托其他研究开展,但借助UWL接收机(UWL receiver)开展的每周观测已可获取其射电频谱与宽频行为的独特测量数据。
本观测项目为探究极具动态性的磁星磁层提供了重要视角,同时刻画了其内射电辐射产生的环境条件,进而对辐射机制形成约束——该机制在若干关键维度上与普通脉冲星的辐射机制存在显著差异。
