VPRS 65 Copy of Inward and Outward Correspondence

The contents of this series were transcribed into this volume at some unknown date after 1851. The originals of the inward correspondence (if still extant) would be held by State Records of New South Wales and may be able to be consulted in CGS 613 Miscellaneous letters received, 1848 - 1866.The series contains correspondence relating to the establishment of thirteen Victorian schools - Bacchus Marsh, Benalla, Barwon, Bates Ford, Colac, Grange (Hamilton), Kilmore, Pascoe Vale, Wangaratta, Waringall (Heidelberg), Wannon River, Warrnambool and Yuroke. Inward letters to the Board of National Education, NSW were from community members who had established a group of Local Patrons and from the teachers of schools. Outward correspondence consists of the replies from the Board in Sydney.Subjects dealt with in the correspondence relate to the establishment of Local Patrons groups and the gaining of Board support, the provision of school buildings, the appointment of teachers, the provision of funding and particularly aid from the Board and the provision of books and requisites. Full details are given of the names of writers and recipients and registration numbers assigned by the Board.
