Using a miR-138 loss-of-function mouse model, a role for the brain enriched microRNA miR-138 in the regulation of inhibitory synaptic transmission and short-term memory formation was shown. Overall design: 3 replicates each from total hippocampal RNA obtained from transgenic mice expressing either an inhibitory sponge transcript (sponge 138) or a control (ctrl) were subjected to polyA-RNA sequencing, followed by differential gene expression analysis.
