snoRNA landscape of Ostreococcus tauri

Ostreococcus tauri is a tiny green pelagic alga which is present worldwide in the Ocean. It is being used as a model for studying eukaryotic algae because it belongs to a group of very common algae that efficiently perform photosynthesis and play important ecological roles in the generation of oxygen and sequestration of carbon dioxide in the sea. The non-coding RNA metabolism that regulates protein synthesis rates in this species has not previously been explored. Here we investigate the small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) of this species, essential for accomplishing efficient ribosome assembly and protein synthesis.
