Data Sources: Open habitats except shrubland extracted from the "Northeast Ecological Systems" dataset (North Atlantic Landscape Conservation Cooperative, 2014, available from nalcc.databasin.org; including data fromThe Nature Conservancy's Northeast Terrestrial Wildlife Habitat Classification System, the National Land Cover Database (NLCD) 2006, National Hydrography dataset, and National Wetlands Inventory; all mapping was done remotely, without field verification). Shrubland from NLCD 2011, available from mrlc.gov. See the metadata for the Northeast Ecological System dataset for complete information. This dataset represents terrestrial and wetland ecological systems of the Northeast (based on NatureServe's Ecological Systems Classifications) combined with human-modified land types such as roads and agriculture. (last updated: 7/2014) Hudsonia used NLCD 2011 shrubland data (category 52) to show in this Open habitats dataset, since the Ecological Systems dataset mapped all shrubland as forest.
