1) These crania of Lufengpithecus, discovered over four decades ago, were thoroughly investigated. Fragmented and deformed petrous bones that had been squeezed into the cranial cavity and previously overlooked were rediscovered. Leveraging an image processing workflow independently developed by the research team, the intricate structure of the inner ear labyrinth within the petrous bone was reconstructed. Data on the inner ear labyrinths of additional fossil and extant hominoids were gathered, and geometric morphometrics and phylogenetic comparative approaches were utilized to reconstruct the evolutionary history of locomotor patterns in the common ancestors of apes and humans. This study demonstrated that the locomotor pattern of Lufengpithecus closely matches that of the ancestral state at the ape-human divergence event, implying that human bipedalism may have originated from the locomotor style characteristic of Lufengpithecus. 2) This dataset encompasses the original research manuscript, raw morphological measurement data of the inner ear labyrinth, and the paper's illustrations. The data were acquired through measurement, photography, CT scanning, and reconstruction. 3) The dataset is of high quality and exhibits excellent clarity. 4) The data can be used as a reliable reference for research and analysis by subsequent researchers.
