Publications from Osteological Analysis at The Mile, Pocklington and Burnby Lane, Pocklington 2018-2022

This collection comprises two publications from osteological analysis of human remains recovered during excavations at land at The Mile, Pocklington and land at Burnby Lane, Pocklington. The osteological analysis was commissioned by MAP Archaeological Practice and undertaken by York Osteoarchaeology between September 2018 and January 2022.

The skeletons at Burnby Lane, Pocklington were recovered from a cemetery containing numerous square barrows. The majority of the skeletons date to the Iron Age, but 41 Anglian inhumations and an Anglian cremation were also present. A possible male adult was interred with a chariot and two mature ponies, which were facing one another.

The five burials at The Mile, Pocklington were dispersed across the southwestern side of the excavated area and date to the Iron Age. The five individuals were buried in crouched positions in a variety of grave types, including plain graves, a round barrow and a square barrow, with Skeleton 424 buried in a chariot, with two horses, a brooch and a number of pig bones indicative of feasting, while Skeleton 303 was interred with eight spear heads and a shield.

本数据集包含两份针对两处考古发掘地块出土人类遗存的骨学分析报告：一处为波克林顿（Pocklington）的米尔（The Mile）地块，另一处为波克林顿的伯恩比巷（Burnby Lane）地块。本次骨学分析由MAP考古实践（MAP Archaeological Practice）委托，约克骨骼考古工作室（York Osteoarchaeology）于2018年9月至2022年1月间完成。
波克林顿的伯恩比巷地块出土的骨骼遗存来自一处带有大量方形墓冢的古代墓地。其中绝大多数遗存年代为铁器时代，但同时也出土了41具盎格鲁（Anglian）土葬遗体及1具盎格鲁火葬遗存。一具疑似成年男性的遗体与一辆战车及两匹相向而立的成年小马一同下葬。
波克林顿的米尔地块的五处墓葬分布于发掘区西南侧，年代均属铁器时代。五具个体均以屈肢葬姿势下葬，墓葬形制多样，涵盖简易土坑墓、一座圆形墓冢及一座方形墓冢：其中424号骨骼遗存随葬战车一辆、马匹两匹、胸针一枚及多块可佐证宴饮活动的猪骨；而303号骨骼遗存则随葬八件矛镞与一面盾牌。
