Epidemiological characterization of an outbreak of extended spectrum β-lactamase Escherichia coli ST-131 confirms the clinical value of using cgMLST and SNP analysis in order to avoid false associations

Sixteen isolates suspected to belong to a well-characterized nosocomial outbreak of ESBL producing E. coli of sequence type (ST)-131 and three non-ST-131 control isolates were collected at a tertiary hospital in Sout-east of Sweden, subjected to WGS, and compared to an unrelated ST-131 reference sequence. Sequence data were analysed using SNP analysis, cgMLST and asccessory genome (ag)MLST.
