The Role of the Need to Have a Protective Figure on Idealised Love: A Romantic Projection on The Character of Sylus

This research is aimed to discover the relationship between the need for a protective figure with the tendency to idealise Sylus as a romantic figure. A quantitative approach was employed with the sample compiled of Love and Deepspace players ranging from the age of 18–45 years old from all over the world through an online survey. The analysis is conducted using Pearson’s correlation and Bayesian Pearson’s correlation. The findings within the research indicated that players of Love and Deepspace who have a high romantic idealisation and parasocial relationship towards Sylus do not have a need for protective figures. Instead, these players grow a sense of security and confidence from the relationship they built with Sylus and the other target characters within Love and Deepspace. This study provides insights for the way media advancements play a role in the romantic feelings and the mental state of participants involved
