Dadswell Wood Collection

ANU has a wood collection within the Forestry Department of the Fenner School of Environment and Society.

The collection has three components:
1. A wood library. A room with bookcases on three sides. The bookcases hold not books, but samples of timber, about the size of a paperback. These timber samples are from Australian and non-Australian timbers.
2. A wood collection. About 3000 pieces of timber, postcard size, 20mm thick. Each piece of timber is numbered.
3. A slide collection. Several thousand slides, each with three thinly sliced and stained sections of timber, for viewing through a backlit microscope.

Indexes
- A cardfile exists of some of the collection, with information about where timber was collected.
- Two spreadsheets cataloguing the wood collection.

The woods are used as a reference collection. Occasionally a small sample may be cut off a specimen for use in a research project, such as for electron microscopy.

This wood collection is one of perhaps three known wood collections in Australia (the others being: CSIRO collection at Monash, and NSW DPI Forestry in Pennant Hills).

澳大利亚国立大学（ANU）的芬纳环境与社会学院林业系内设有一处木材馆藏。

该馆藏包含三个组成部分：
1. 木材文库：一间三面设有书架的房间，书架上存放的并非书籍，而是尺寸与平装书相仿的木材标本，涵盖澳大利亚本土及海外产木材。
2. 实体木材标本馆藏：约3000件尺寸为明信片大小、厚度20毫米的木材标本，每件均配有专属编号。
3. 玻片馆藏：数千张玻片，每张玻片均带有三片经薄切与染色处理的木材切片，可通过背光显微镜进行观测。

索引信息如下：
- 馆藏部分样本配有卡片式索引，记录了木材的采集地点信息。
- 另有两份电子表格用于该木材馆藏的编目工作。

该木材馆藏主要作为参考标本集使用。偶尔可从标本上截取少量样本，用于电子显微镜观测等科研项目。

该木材馆藏为澳大利亚已知的三处同类馆藏之一，其余两处分别为莫纳什大学内的联邦科学与工业研究组织（CSIRO）馆藏，以及位于彭南特希尔斯的新南威尔士州 primary industries 部林业部门（NSW DPI Forestry）馆藏。
