Four very different C. jejuni strains isolated from humans have been subjected to both whole genome sequencing and to comparative proteomics using iTRAQ reagents. The overall goal of the project is to determine the utility of the proteomics/mass spectrometry approach for characterizing and differentiating isolates in the context of known whole genome sequence data. It will be of critical importance to determine whether or not there are any artifacts or errors arising from the analysis of data when utilizing applications such as Scaffold and what the nature of these errors may be (eg. problems with data normalization due to the differential protein content of samples). These data will be useful for developing a more complete understanding of protein expression differences in different strains and of the differential gene content that may be responsible.
