The 1:5,000,000 scale soil distribution dataset of the United States (1972) depicts the distribution of various soil types across the entire territory of the United States. The soil classification system adopted in this dataset follows the FAO soil classification framework, which covers nearly 100 soil types and nearly 500 distinct soil type combinations. Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the soil distribution across the United States can provide data support for scientific studies of global terrestrial surface ecosystems.
