Using the large deer farm network in Texas, we aim to quantify the frequency of captive cervid infection by SARS-CoV-2 and determine the the degree of horizontal transmission among captive deer and sympatric livestock and wildlife. For this, we will analyze viral genomes from deer and other species to infer the directionality of transmission of SARS-CoV-2. This project will provide critical information for management decisions to improving agricultural biosecurity and protect animal health.
