资源简介:
This collection comprises site images, site records, a report, and GIS data from an archaeological watching brief at Brasenose Chapel, Oxford, Oxfordshire. The works were conducted by Oxford Archaeology (South) between August and November 2023. The works were undertaken as part of development work to install foundations for a new staircase within the chapel. The investigations revealed make-up layers for the existing marble floor tiles of 19th century date and an underlying mortar surface. Below this was an early 19th century soil that overlay and surrounded a brick structure with stone capping and an internal void. Although no human remains were encountered, this is likely to be a tomb. Below the base of the tomb, soil continued down for a further 1m without reaching natural, and is likely to represent the fill of an earlier feature truncating the natural gravel, and one predating the construction of the chapel.
