Pre-registration for Influence of Language Dominance on Filipino’s Categorical Perception of English Phonemes

This paper, seeks to investigate the phenomenon of categorical perception among Filipinos from both the Philippines and Singapore who speak English and a native language of the Philippines. The aim is to examine whether one’s dominant language being a language of the Philippines, as opposed to English, may interfere with their ability to accurately perceive some English phonemes as distinct categories. 本研究旨在探究来自菲律宾及新加坡、同时使用英语及一门菲律宾本土语言的菲律宾人群体中的范畴知觉（categorical perception）现象。本研究的核心目标为检验：当个体的主导语言为菲律宾本土语言而非英语时，是否会干扰其准确将部分英语音素（phonemes）辨识为独立范畴的能力。本文附带预注册文档。
