Biomarkers and PAHs concentrations were measured in caged oysters in May 2010 prior to oil reaching the coastline, and in caged and wild oysters in October 2010 and in 2011 at oiled (Grande Terre) and non-oiled sites (Bay Gardene, Sister Lake, Grand Isle north shore). Hemocyte density, viability, phagocytosis and lysosomal stability were measured in individual oysters. Oysters were then shucked and fragments of gills were used to measure HSP70 stress proteins. Standard tissue sections were processed to assess histopathology. The bulk of the tissue from each oyster was then homogenized and processed to measure Perkinsus marinus infection intensities, calculate condition index and determine PAHs concentrations.
