Whole-genome sequencing reveals genomic diversity and selection signatures in Yanyun sheep

Yanyun (YY) sheep represent a composite breed generated through the crossbreeding of Dorper, Hu, and East Friesian sheep, with the objective of combining rapid growth rates, prolific reproductive performance, and robust environmental adaptability. However, the genetic basis underlying their superior traits remains unclear. In this study, we performed whole-genome resequencing of 43 YY individuals alongside their parental breeds and 13 additional sheep populations to assess genomic diversity, population structure, and selection signatures.
