Jorgos Seferis, I gatti di San Nicola. Storia di una poesia

The first inspiration for this poem dates back to December 1952; Seferis took it up again in 1956, completed it and published it in 1969. In the long elaboration (testified by manuscript fragments of subsequent drafts) there is a political evolution of the poetic message, which becomes an act of protest against the military dictatorship in Greece (1967-1974).
