For this study, a series of laboratory-scale anaerobic digestion-bioelectrochemical system (AD-BES) reactors were operated to valorize agricultural digestates by producing biogas. The reactors were inoculated and started up using three different digestates, each subjected to different voltages. Microbial communities were analyzed throughout the experiment, including biomass, cathodes, and electrode biofilms. DNA extraction was performed on a total of 96 samples, and the 16S rRNA gene was sequenced using Illumina PE300 technology
