Effects of Maltobionic and Lactobionic Acids on Human Fecal Microbiota: An In Vitro Study. Bacteria

This project investigates the prebiotic potential of maltobionic and lactobionic acids through in vitro cultivation of human fecal microbiota. Fecal samples from healthy donors were cultured with 0.3% (w/v) of either maltobionic or lactobionic acid for two weeks. The study aims to elucidate changes in microbial composition and diversity using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. By analyzing the shifts in bacterial populations, we seek to understand how these compounds influence gut microbiota and assess their potential as novel prebiotics. This research provides insights into the interaction between these sugar acids and gut bacteria, contributing to the development of targeted prebiotic strategies for improving human gut health.
