Selective Citation of Experts in Chinese Official Media during COVID-19

This project examines how China’s two major official media outlets—Xinhua News Agency and People’s Daily—cited scientific experts on their official social media accounts during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020–2022). The dataset documents which experts were cited, when they were cited, and what types of statements were quoted. It also includes thematic coding of the cited content to capture the communicative functions these expert quotations served.本研究考察了2020至2022年新冠疫情（COVID-19 pandemic）期间，中国两大官方媒体——新华社（Xinhua News Agency）与人民日报（People’s Daily）——在其官方社交媒体账号上援引科学专家的具体情况。本数据集记录了被援引的专家身份、援引发生的时间节点，以及所引述的言论类型。此外，数据集还包含对引述内容的主题编码，用以捕捉此类专家引述所发挥的传播功能。
