Number of permanent residents at the beginning of the year

The purpose of the statistical survey on the determination of the number and composition of permanent residents shall be to prepare and publish statistical information on the number of permanent residents of the Republic of Lithuania by gender, age, nationality, citizenship, state of birth, legal marital status, distribution within administrative units of the territory of the Republic of Lithuania and other indicators of the number of permanent residents. “Permanent residents” means persons whose permanent residence is in the Republic of Lithuania during the reporting period. “Permanent residence” means the place where a person normally spends a portion of the day on rest, regardless of temporary absences on holiday, visits to friends and relatives, business, medical treatment or religious pilgrimage. Persons who: (i) have resided continuously in their place of usual residence for at least 12 months before the reference date or (ii) have arrived in their place of usual residence for at least one year during the 12 months preceding the reference date. The classifications used are: Classifications of countries and territories worldwide; Classification of administrative units and residential areas of the Republic of Lithuania (LR AVGVK 2018); Classification of territorial statistical units (NUTS). Data on age, gender, marital status shall be provided from 2001 onwards.
